How to Register for Calculus Courses

Below are the registration rules for calculus sequences. In most cases, you must enroll in linked lecture/discussion sections using the same section number.

Math 223 / Math 224

These courses are linked and must be taken in the same section.

  • You must register for the same section number in both courses.
  • Example: Math 223-01 and Math 224-01 are linked.

Math 224 / Math 225

These courses are also linked.

  • You must register for the same section number in both courses.
  • Sections 20–39 are linked pairs
  • Example:
    • Math 224-20 and Math 225-20 are linked.
    • Math 224-39 and Math 225-39 are linked.

Math 224 only

  • There are no standalone Math 224 sections. All Math 224 sections in the first part of the term are linked to Math 225. All Math 224 sections in the second part of the term are linked to Math 223. 
  • To enroll in Math 224 only, email: mathoffice@binghamton.edu

Math 225 only

  • There is only 1 standalone Math 225 section (Math 225-52) offered in the first part of the term.
  • Once it is filled, students must take it in the second part of the term by submitting a petition to take the course in a paired section. Use the Google signup form below to make the petition.
  • Important: You will not be notified of your assigned section until shortly before the course begins. Registration will be completed automatically within a few days of notification. No follow-up email is required.

Math 225 / Math 226

  • These courses are not linked. If you plan to take these course, you may take a standalone Math 225 in the first part of term and a standalone Math 226 in the second part of term.

Math 226 / Math 227

These courses are linked.

  • You must register for the same section number in both courses.
  • Sections 01–11 are linked
  • Example:
    • Math 226-05 and Math 227-05 are linked.

Math 226 only

  • There are no standalone Math 226 sections in the first part of the term.
  • Standalone sections in the second part of the term include:
    • Math 226-50
    • Math 226-51

Math 227 only

  • Sections 40 and 41 are standlone sections in the first part of the term.
  • Section 42 is the only standlone section in the second part of the term.
  • Requires a C- or better in Math 226 (for MATH majors the minimum grade requirement is C or better).
  • If these sections are full, add yourself to the waitlist.
  • If unavailable, you petition to take the course in a paired section in the second part of the term using the below Google signup form.

Restrictions

Some sections are initially restricted to Watson students only. These restrictions will be lifted after Watson students are registered.
