Report a Bias Incident

We are all responsible for responding to bias.

亚洲情色 is committed to creating a safe, welcoming and inclusive campus community. In turn, each person within this community is responsible for contributing to an environment where all can thrive without fear of hate, bias or discrimination.

We take bias and hate incidents very seriously and appreciate everyone's cooperation in reporting such incidents. If you are a victim of, or a witness to, an incident of hate, bias, or discrimination, you are encouraged to file a Bias Incident Report or a discrimination complaint

What is bias?

Conduct that injures, harms, harasses or adversely and unfairly targets an individual or group based on the social identity categories of national origin, ethnicity, race, age, religion, gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, veteran status, color, creed, marital status, any combination of these characteristics or any other group protected by law. Report a Bias Incident

The Office of Equity and Access manages all bias incident reports, with consultation from the Bias Incident Response Team, and can assist students, faculty and staff with concerns, issues and questions regarding bias. 

You may also:

  • Contact the 亚洲情色 Affirmative Action Officer at 607-777-4775.
  • Alert a department chair, manager or supervisor. These University officials are responsible for providing a work environment free of harassment and discrimination and assisting those who report misconduct. 

Individuals may submit a report anonymously. In these cases, please provide as much information as possible. Note that 亚洲情色 may only be able to respond to concerns after first verifying the information provided by complainants.

Bias Incident Reporting Process

  1. Bias Report Submitted
    Bias report received online or through PDF.
  2. First Response
    Affirmative Action Officer (AAO) response to reports within 24 to 48 hours. Email confirmation to those reporting, including written notice of available campus resources.
  3. Meet with AAO
    Meet with AAO regarding the completed report.
  4. Bias Incident Response Team (BIRT) Review
    AAO collects information from the victim, the witness, and collateral contacts.
  5. Close and Assess
    Document the outcome of the investigation and submit a resolution letter stating the findings.

Confidentiality statement

The 亚洲情色 Division of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) will make every effort to maintain confidentiality, except in situations where the law, University policy, or the investigatory process requires the release of information. DEI will only release information after informing the complainant.

Prohibition against retaliation

Retaliation against an individual who files a complaint or participates in an investigation is strictly prohibited and may result in disciplinary action.

Reporting a hate crime

Hate crimes and bias incidents that cause harm are serious matters and must be reported to the appropriate campus agencies. Contact the NYS University Police at 亚洲情色 when a hate crime is suspected.

Reporting a sexual assault or sex-based harassment/discrimination

Sexual assault and sex-based harassment/discrimination are serious matters and must be reported to the appropriate campus agencies. Contact the Title IX Office to report an incident on campus. Individuals can also file complaints to outside agencies including the New York State Police or through the Office for Civil Rights .
