Graduate assistantships
Campus Recreation offers graduate assistantships with competitive stipends in exchange for 20 hours of work per week. These positions provide hands-on experience in administrative roles that support the department.

Internships
Campus Recreation offers two-credit* internships for students interested in becoming certified group fitness instructors or personal trainers. These programs prepare students for ACE certification exams and provide hands-on experience leading classes or working with individuals one-on-one. Participants must be available to work for Campus Recreation the following semester. Email Jody with any questions regarding Campus Recreation's internships.

Administrative and programming positions

Wellness services attendant
Be the first smile people see when they check into Wellness Services. Wellness Services attendants help with check-ins, answer questions and support anyone using the wellness space. You鈥檒l also be responsible for basic administrative tasks like data entry and filing.
What we鈥檙e looking for:

Fitness assistant
Help keep our fitness spaces safe, welcoming, and running smoothly! As a Fitness Assistant, you'll check patron eligibility, monitor the fitness center, and offer friendly guidance on how to use equipment properly. You鈥檒l also answer questions about Campus Rec programs and help take care of the equipment and space.
What we鈥檙e looking for:
- Friendly, observant and safety-minded
- Willing to learn policies and share them with patrons
- Comfortable giving tips on equipment use
- Reliable and ready to work at least 6 hours per week

Outdoor Pursuits office and rental center assistant
If you love the outdoors and want to support others in getting outside, this is the job for you. Help folks get geared up for their adventures, support office operations and keep our rental gear in top shape, from skis to stoves and bikes.
In the office:
- Register participants, answer phones/emails, and help promote programs
- Stay organized with filing, photocopying and policy reminders
In the rental center:
- Size and rent out outdoor gear
- Help clean, repair and maintain equipment
- Support basic bike fixes, ski waxing and even van checkups
What we鈥檙e looking for:
- Past or current Outdoor Pursuits participant
- Comfortable with hands-on tasks and gear maintenance
- Organized, communicative and detail-oriented
- Some mechanical know-how is a plus
- Available Mondays and Fridays preferred

Recreational services assistant
Be the go-to person at the East Gym, Recreation Center. You鈥檒l greet patrons, handle check-ins, help with purchases and program registrations, and keep things running smoothly at the front desk. You'll also help check out recreation equipment and support the team with basic admin tasks.
What you鈥檒l do:
- Greet and check eligibility of patrons
- Help with purchases, registrations and answering questions
- Enforce department policies in a respectful, clear way
- Support filing and mailings
- Manage equipment check-outs
What we鈥檙e looking for:
- Friendly, reliable and detail-oriented
- Good with computers and multitasking
- Experience with customer service is a plus

Graphic design assistant
Put your creativity to work. You鈥檒l help design eye-catching materials to promote Campus Rec programs, from fliers and brochures to web graphics and signage. This role is perfect for someone who loves design, knows their way around Adobe Creative Suite and Canva, and wants real-world experience building a consistent brand.
What you鈥檒l do:
- Design print and digital marketing materials
- Work on signage, fliers, brochures, web graphics and more
- Help maintain a consistent look and feel across all Campus Rec content
- Stay updated with Campus Rec programs so you can design with purpose

Lifeguard
Be the safety superhero of our pool. Lifeguards keep swimmers safe during recreational swims, classes and special events. You鈥檒l open and close the pool area, monitor activity and enforce rules to maintain a secure environment. You may also assist swim instructors during classes.
What we鈥檙e looking for:
- Current certifications in Lifeguard Training, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, and First Aid
- Reliable, alert and confident in your skills
- Able to work at least 6 hours per week
- Pre-interview skills test required

Intramural Sports official/referee
Love sports? Help make our intramural games fun and fair. Officials enforce the rules, keep time and score, and help manage games across a variety of sports, like basketball, soccer, volleyball, dodgeball, and more. We鈥檒l provide the training!
What we鈥檙e looking for:
- Clear communicator and quick decision-maker
- Physically able to handle active shifts in varied weather
- Comfortable lifting gear and setting up fields
- Available evenings/weekends
- Fitness level appropriate to the sport
Instructional positions

Ropes course assistant
Help teams build trust, face challenges and grow together. Ropes course assistants lead team-building activities on our outdoor low and high ropes elements. You鈥檒l guide groups, teach safety protocols, and help with all the hands-on work, like climbing, belaying, rigging and more.
What we鈥檙e looking for:
- Comfortable working at heights (up to 25 ft)
- Physically able to navigate outdoor terrain and equipment
- Willing to learn facilitation, knots and rope safety
- Available for training and program support (low and high elements)
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willing to get it)

Water safety instructor
Help swimmers build confidence and skills in the water. As a Water Safety Instructor, you鈥檒l teach Red Cross swim lessons to kids or adults and lead one-on-one aquatic fitness sessions to help clients reach their personal goals.
What we鈥檙e looking for:
- American Red Cross WSI certified
- CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certified
- Friendly, patient and encouraging
- Able to work with at least two clients per semester

Group fitness instructors
Get the energy going and lead workouts that inspire. Group fitness instructors plan and teach safe, effective and fun classes in their area of expertise. You鈥檒l teach at least 2 classes a week and bring the motivation!
What we鈥檙e looking for:
- National fitness certification (AFAA, ACE, Mad Dogg, etc.)
- Proficiency in your chosen class format
- Confident, motivating and committed to wellness
- Available for at least two weekly class slots
Supervisory positions
Preference will be given to current Campus Recreation employees with at least two semesters of service. Must be currently CPR/AED and First Aid certified or willing to certify.

Sport program supervisor
Sport program supervisors oversee intramural and club sports during evenings and weekends, making sure games run smoothly and safely. You鈥檒l manage student officials, respond to emergencies, enforce policies and help create a fun, respectful atmosphere for all participants and spectators.
What we鈥檙e looking for:
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Comfortable handling emergencies and resolving issues on the fly
- Willing to work evenings and weekends, outdoors in all weather
- CPR/AED and First Aid certification (or willing to obtain)
- Previous supervision or leadership experience is a plus

Head lifeguard
The head lifeguard helps recruit, train and supervise the lifeguard team, manage schedules, oversee payroll, and track pool participation. You鈥檒l also assist with equipment maintenance and ensure everyone is up-to-date on safety procedures.
What we鈥檙e looking for:
- Current certifications in Lifeguard Training, CPR/AED, and First Aid
- Strong leadership and organization skills
- Reliable, responsible and team-oriented
- Previous experience supervising or mentoring others preferred

Fitness manager
Fitness managers help hire, train and supervise staff, manage payroll, schedule shifts and track participation data. You'll also monitor equipment needs and make sure the fitness center is a clean, safe and motivating place for everyone.
What we鈥檙e looking for:
- Confident leader with strong communication and organizational skills
- Comfortable with scheduling, paperwork and fitness equipment
- Available at least 10 hours/week (mainly evenings and weekends)
- Knowledge of emergency procedures and facility policies required
- Previous leadership experience preferred

Building manager
Building managers open and close the East Gym, Recreation Center, respond to injuries or emergencies, and help manage everything from open recreation to special events. You'll also support staff and patrons across all Campus Recreation program areas.
What we鈥檙e looking for:
- Strong leadership, decision-making and customer service skills
- Familiar with (or ready to learn about) all Campus Recreation programs
- Able to work flexible shifts, including early mornings, late nights and weekends
- Detail-oriented and a team player
- Must complete PCI Compliance exam annually
- 10+ hours/week availability
