Professional Development Workshops

The UDiversity Educational Institute provides a schedule of workshops and other programs to help increase cultural competency across the campus. Many of these trainings are open to the entire campus community, and some are created with specific audiences in mind. Additionally, targeted workshops or trainings may be requested to meet a department or team’s specific needs. 

Workshops may be held in person or online via Zoom technology, and are typically about two hours long.

This interactive training provides an in-depth exploration of Restorative Practices, emphasizing their role in fostering healthy relationships, promoting team cohesion, and cultivating a culture of care across campus. Participants will engage with the foundational principles and evidence-based strategies of Restorative Practices, with a particular focus on their application within classroom settings and professional campus teams.

The training incorporates culturally responsive teaching methodologies and hands-on restorative activities, equipping attendees with practical tools to implement a restorative culture of care. By embracing these practices, individuals in all roles on campus will be empowered to enhance engagement, foster accountability, and support academic and professional success.

Participants will learn about bias in relationship to Title VI regulations, the process for reporting a bias incident report and learn about the campus Bias Incident Response Team. Participants will understand the differences between a bias incident, hate speech, and a hate crime while learning about the university’s policies that aim to create a safe and inclusive campus environment. All faculty and staff are encouraged to attend. This training is sponsored by the Office of Equity and Access.

Harriet Tubman Monument- Downtown Campus
Ìý Join us for Moments at the Monuments, an engaging BYou Circle experience designed to spark connection through shared stories and reflection. Taking place at three powerful historical sites — the Falling Man sculpture (June 11th)Ìý on the ÑÇÖÞÇéÉ« main campus,Ìý the Harriet Tubman Monument (July 9th) at the Downtown Center, andÌý ACA Memorial Park (August 13th) — this workshop invites participants to pause, reflect, and build understanding in the community.

Rooted in dialogue and storytelling, this circle is open to all members of our campus — students, faculty, and staff — who are curious about how the spaces we inhabit connect to our identities, histories, and futures. We’ll explore what these monuments mean to us individually and collectively, and how we can hold space for one another across differences.

Whether you're looking to engage more deeply with the ÑÇÖÞÇéÉ« community, share your voice, or simply listen and learn, this is a space for you.

Over the past few years the workplace has changed its response to meeting the needs of employees with disabilities. ÌýAccording to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, 1 in 5 adults will experience a mental illness each year. Based on the Americans with Disabilities Act Ìý(ADA) supervisors and managers need to know how to respond to accommodation requests and how to interact with employees if a disability is disclosed (or not disclosed). In accordance with policy, this training will provide participants with best practices and an understanding of procedures to support faculty/staff and student employees with disabilities to improve accessibility.

This section of the training will provide information on how to respond to an accommodation request for a disability from job applicants or candidates during the search process. Participants will learn how to engage in conversation before, during, and after the hiring process to ensure adherence to ADA federal law. Case studies will be used to provide more in-depth examples of common accommodations and challenges that may occur in navigating communication around accommodations and disability.
