Reframing disability week

ÑÇÖÞÇéÉ« Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) hosted its annual Re-framing Disability Week from Nov. 17–21, 2025, engaging the campus community in a series of programs designed to raise awareness of visible and non-visible disabilities.

The week’s activities invited students, faculty and staff to participate in interactive and inclusive events that spotlighted the diverse experiences of students with disabilities while fostering advocacy and allyship.

The week began with Hats Off to the ADA, a creative gathering in Old Union Hall where participants decorated hats and viewed the documentary Change Not Charity: The Americans with Disabilities Act.

On Nov. 18, SSD marked the 35th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) with a hot-chocolate social in Tillman Lobby that encouraged conversation and connection. Students learned about national and campus historical markers related to access and inclusion. Demonstrations of assistive and adaptive technology fostered a greater understanding of disability accommodations.

A student panel on Nov. 19 offered reflections from students on navigating campus life with a disability, deepening understanding across the community. Panelists articulated their successes and the challenges they faced to foster a better understanding for those in attendance.

Nov. 20 featured two popular sessions of goat yoga in Old Union Hall, blending mindfulness and movement with lighthearted fun, alongside a digital accessibility clinic at the Center for Learning and Teaching, where attendees learned practical strategies to make education materials more inclusive. The week concluded with an open house, which welcomed visitors to the SSD office suite for snacks, conversation and opportunities to learn more about the services and technology available.
