A Place Where Curiosity Shapes the Future
Harpur College is the Academic Heart of ÑÇÖÞÇéÉ«
As the University's largest and most diverse academic unit, Harpur unites the humanities, social sciences and natural sciences in one collaborative community built on inquiry and discovery. With nearly 60 undergraduate majors and close to 50 graduate programs, students have the range to build a path that's genuinely their own — backed by the close-knit feel of a liberal arts college and the resources, research and global reach of a premier public research university. Here, students don't just study the world — they engage with it and help shape its future.
Our faculty are leaders in their fields — award-winning researchers, accomplished scholars and dedicated mentors who bring global experience into every classroom and lab. Meet the college's leadership on the Dean's Office page, or read the Dean's Message for a firsthand look at where Harpur is headed.
"From breadth through depth to perspective"
Since its founding in 1950, Harpur College has built its curriculum around a single guiding philosophy: "From breadth through depth to perspective." Every student follows a broad-based General Education curriculum that builds writing, speaking and critical-thinking skills, then chooses a major that provides in-depth understanding and hands-on problem-solving in a specific field.
The result is a Harpur education that moves from wide exposure, to focused expertise, to the kind of perspective that connects the two — students graduate with a global outlook, sharpened critical thinking, and a genuine appreciation for different cultures and points of view. A Community Built on Diversity and Inclusion
Harpur College is committed to an educational environment that's inclusive of everyone who's part of it — a diverse, multi-vocal, connected community where scholarship, creative work and learning spaces are genuinely welcoming and accessible.
We take seriously the responsibility of addressing both the historic and present legacies of structural racism, gender inequality, discrimination based on sexual orientation, poverty, ability bias, and other forms of social injustice — through our research, our teaching, and how we support one another.
Harpur College is committed to supporting our faculty, staff and students as we work together to build an equitable community that offers a sense of meaning, purpose and value for everyone in it.
