A Message from the Dean
Celia M. Klin, Dean of Harpur College
Harpur College of Arts and Sciences is the historical and intellectual heart of ÑÇÖÞÇéÉ« University, which began as Triple Cities College in 1946. When Harpur joined the newly created State University of New York system in 1950, it was one of only two liberal arts colleges in the system. For more than 70 years, Harpur has lived up to its motto, "From breadth through depth to perspective."
Our faculty are engaged in a broad range of scholarly work, creative activity and research that takes on some of the world's most pressing problems. They're also dedicated teachers, committed to providing a rigorous liberal arts education by working directly with students in the classroom, laboratory, studio, field and on the theater stage.
In an increasingly complex, global world, the liberal arts matter more than they did even at Harpur's founding. A liberal arts education doesn't just prepare students for a changing job market — it builds the ability to think deeply and critically about the world around them.

More about Celia M. Klin
After seven years serving as associate dean, senior associate dean and interim dean, Professor Celia M. Klin was named dean of Harpur College in July 2021. As dean, she works closely with associate and assistant deans and staff across every area of the college — academic programs, faculty research, faculty development and alumni engagement.
A cognitive psychologist who researches psycholinguistics, Klin joined Harpur in 1994 as a professor in the Psychology department.
