Each and every person involved with the Link Foundation plays a vital role in its success. Through your support, we will continue to strengthen our mission of enhancing the recognized Link Legacy of leadership and excellence in the ever evolving fields of simulation and training, energy resources development and conservation, and ocean engineering and instrumentation.

The Link Foundation has distributed over $11 million in grants to universities, colleges, and charitable organizations over its history. Over 1000 students have benefitted from our internships and undergraduate scholarships and more than 250 Fellowships have been given to top students in the fields that support the Link mission. Many of these fellows are doctoral students at top universities such as MIT, Stanford and Northwestern, to name but a few. Research is being done by our Fellows that will affect future energy resources in the same way that Ed Link's pioneering work spawned the field of flight simulation and undersea exploration.

As an example, Kurt House, a recent Link Energy Fellow, did his Ph.D. work at Harvard on carbon sequestration, and has founded a start-up company, C12, to pursue this further. Lee Lynd received a Link Fellowship in 1984 to work on biofuels. He is now one of the world's leading authorities on the subject. Lynd's many activities in the field include co-founding Mascoma Corporation to pursue advanced technology for production of fuels from non-edible plant matter.

The Link Foundation is also proud to share with you that the "The Royal Aeronautical Society” (RAeS) honored the memory of Edwin A. Link by establishing an annual lecture in his name. The first lecture was presented in London in 2007 and the next lecture took place at the British Embassy in Washington, D.C. The RAeS Flight Simulation group believes the Link Trainer represented a milestone in the history of Flight Simulation. Please visit our website at for further information on the date and location of the 2009 lecture.

I know that some of you may be facing difficult challenges during the current economic conditions. Please know that your support, at any level, is greatly appreciated and is crucial to the success of the Link mission. On behalf of the Link Foundation Board of Trustees, Special Advisors, and Program Directors we extend sincere appreciation for your ongoing support.

Sincerely,

David M. Gouldin

Chair, Board of Trustees
